Amara Raja Infra Completes India’s 1st Green Hydrogen Fueling Station in Leh
India’s first green hydrogen station in Leh marks a milestone in emission-free transport and clean energy innovation.
In a significant step toward green mobility, Amara Raja Infra has successfully set up India’s first green hydrogen fueling station in Leh, Ladakh, for NTPC.
According to a statement, the station, inaugurated by Union Power Minister Manohar Lal on Monday, positions India among the global leaders in hydrogen-powered transportation.
The pioneering project, completed over two years, is part of the National Hydrogen Energy Mission, an ambitious initiative to promote green hydrogen as a clean energy alternative.
The station, situated at an altitude of 3,400 meters, will facilitate emission-free transportation in Leh’s ecologically sensitive and high-altitude region, where temperatures fluctuate between -25 degrees Celsius and 30°C.
“This project reaffirms our expertise in executing complex EPC projects in challenging environments. As the first player in India’s green hydrogen infrastructure space, we are proud to contribute to the country’s clean energy ambitions,” said Dwarakanadha Reddy, business head of power EPC at Amara Raja Infra in a press release.
With a capacity to produce 80 kilograms of green hydrogen daily, the station will support the operation of five hydrogen fuel cell buses in and around Leh.
Amara Raja Infra’s scope included the design, engineering, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning of the station, along with a three-year operation and maintenance agreement.
The project’s success is expected to serve as a blueprint for future hydrogen mobility and storage initiatives across India.
“This is not just an infrastructure milestone but a harbinger of the green hydrogen revolution in the country,” the company said in a statement.
As countries worldwide pivot toward renewable energy, India’s foray into green hydrogen infrastructure highlights its commitment to reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable development.
The Leh project, NTPC and Amara Raja Infra believe, could be instrumental in shaping the future of green transportation across the nation.
