Mercedes-Benz Drives Sustainability Strategy with Focus on Six ESG Principles
Mercedes-Benz’s ambitious sustainability strategy focuses on electrification, circular economy, human rights, safety, digital ethics and employee well-being.
Mercedes-Benz unveiled on Monday a comprehensive sustainability strategy encompassing six key areas: environment & climate, resources & circularity, human rights, traffic safety, digital trust and people.
This multi-faceted approach underscores the automaker’s commitment to a sustainable future, aligning with its ESG principles.
“Sustainability has been a fundamental component of the Mercedes-Benz Group’s corporate activities for many years,” said Renata Jungo Brüngger, board member for integrity, governance & sustainability at Mercedes-Benz in a statement.
Environment & Climate
Mercedes-Benz aims to achieve net-zero emissions for its entire vehicle fleet by 2039. The company will realize this through electrification, decarbonization of the supply chain and production, and increased use of recycled materials. The company is investing heavily in electric vehicle technology, with the upcoming MMA platform set to launch in 2025.
Resources & Circularity
To reduce resource consumption, Mercedes-Benz is focusing on closing material loops and increasing the use of recycled materials. The automaker is adopting a “Design for Environment” approach, considering the recyclability of materials from the initial design stage. Lightweight construction and the efficient use of resources are also key priorities.
Human Rights
Respect for human rights is a cornerstone of Mercedes-Benz’s corporate governance. The company has implemented the Human Rights Respect System to identify and mitigate risks in its supply chains. The Principles of Social Responsibility and Human Rights provide a framework for ensuring fair labor practices and ethical sourcing.
Traffic Safety
Mercedes-Benz is committed to accident-free driving. The company’s advanced safety technologies, such as Active Brake Assist, aim to prevent accidents and minimize their impact. Through continuous research and development, Mercedes-Benz strives to set new safety standards.
Digital Trust
In the digital age, Mercedes-Benz prioritizes responsible data handling and the ethical use of artificial intelligence. The company’s AI Principles guide the development and deployment of AI applications, ensuring transparency, privacy, and safety.
People
Mercedes-Benz is committed to creating a positive and inclusive work environment. The Sustainable People Plan focuses on employee development, diversity, and well-being. The company offers various initiatives to support its workforce, including flexible work arrangements, training programs, and health benefits.
By addressing these six key areas, Mercedes-Benz aims to drive sustainable innovation and positively impact society. As the company moves forward with innovative solutions and responsible practices, it is poised to lead the way toward a greener, more equitable future for all.
