Labour & Employment Ministry Partners with Swiggy to Boost Gig Economy Jobs
Ministry of Labour & Employment partners with Swiggy to create 1.2 million gig jobs via the National Career Service portal.
India’s Ministry of Labour & Employment on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding with food delivery platform Swiggy, aiming to create over 1.2 million job opportunities in the gig and logistics sectors over the next two to three years through the National Career Service portal.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Labor Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State for Labor & Employment Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, marking a significant push toward formalizing gig economy jobs and improving employment linkages.
Flexible Work for Youth and Women
“The NCS portal is a dynamic platform that connects job seekers and employers across India,” Mandaviya said at the signing ceremony. “This partnership with Swiggy will expand access to flexible and location-based opportunities for millions of youth.”
Swiggy, one of India’s largest platform-based employers, will integrate real-time gig and delivery role listings into the NCS portal through API-based systems.
The move is expected to improve visibility and application tracking for job seekers while supporting inclusive hiring practices, particularly for youth and women.
Dr. Mandaviya said the partnership would offer mutual benefits: “Swiggy will gain access to a diverse, job-ready talent pool, while lakhs of job seekers will benefit from verified, hyperlocal work opportunities.”
Public-Private Push for Employment Growth
Dinker Vashisht, chief of corporate affairs at Swiggy, welcomed the collaboration. “This MoU reflects how digital entrepreneurship and public-private partnerships can enable inclusive growth in the new-age economy,” he said.
The agreement also supports structured onboarding, digital empowerment, and awareness of worker welfare schemes. It is part of a broader government effort to collaborate with private-sector employers and gig platforms to enhance job facilitation across India.
The NCS portal had over 12.5 million active job seekers and 4 million registered employers as of January 2025, according to official figures. The government plans to scale such partnerships to reinforce the platform as a comprehensive hub for employment, skilling and career counseling.
