Assam Approves Mega Industrial Park, New Green Energy Policy
Assam government clears mega industrial park, green energy policy to boost investment and sustainability in state.
Assam’s state cabinet has approved the development of a mega industrial park and introduced a new policy to boost green energy projects, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference following a cabinet meeting, Sarma said the government will allocate 569 bighas (over 188 acres) of land in Morigaon district for the industrial park, which aims to attract investment and foster economic growth.
He added that the cabinet also approved the Assam Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2025, which seeks to promote solar, wind, mini and small hydro, hydrogen, and other renewable energy projects in the state.
“We have also decided to notify a new national park between the existing Raimona and Manas parks. It will be called Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park and will span 316.29 sq. km across Chirang and Kokrajhar districts,” Sarma said.
He noted that the cabinet also approved postgraduate increments for Ayurvedic doctors who have successfully completed a three-year PG course.
SJVN’s foray into Assam
In March last year, SJVN Green Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN, broke ground for its 50-megawatt solar power project at the Sitalmari village of Sonitpur district in Assam.
Located in Barsola Block under the Dhekiajuli Revenue Sector, the project is estimated to cost ₹2.91 billion ($35.17 million).
The project is expected to generate 101 million units of green energy in the first year and 2,319 MU of cumulative energy over 25 years.
The power generated will be supplied to the Assam Power Development Corp. at a tariff of ₹3.92 per kilowatt-hour.
