ITI Ltd., the public sector telecom manufacturing company, said on Tuesday that it received an order worth ₹300 crore ($35.7 million) from the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Authority to supply and install 1 lakh solar street light systems for the state.

According to a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange, this order is in addition to 80,000 solar street light systems the company is executing in Bihar for BREDA.

The statement further said that BREDA will install solar streetlights under the “Mukhyamantri Gramin Solar Street Light Yojana,” an initiative to improve rural infrastructure with sustainable energy solutions.

ITI’s Naini Plant, which has been manufacturing solar panels for the last six years, will lead this project. The districts covered in this Order are Gopalgunj, Siwan, Samastipur and Purnia. Other districts include Araria, Gaya, Darbhanga, Patna, Katihar and Khagaria.

The project will operate under the supervision of BREDA and include critical components such as solar photovoltaic modules, solar batteries, LED luminaries, mounting structures and balance of the system.

“ITI Ltd. is extremely delighted to partner with the government of Bihar’s BREDA again to provide streetlights with sustainable solar energy,” said Rajesh Rai, chairman and managing director of ITI.

Rai added that the company has amassed dependable experience in efficiently supplying and installing solar street light systems in urban and rural hinterlands.

Recently, the telecom major won its first order from the State Election Commission of West Bengal to supply electronic voting machines after their successful demonstration in Kolkata.
