Reliance NU Suntech Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Reliance Power, announced on Tuesday that it has secured a monumental 930-megawatt solar energy project with a 1,860-MWh battery energy storage system from the Solar Energy Corp. of India.

According to a statement, the project was awarded through an e-reverse auction held on Dec. 9 and is the largest single solar and battery storage project in India.

Reliance NU Suntech outbid four rival firms to win the largest share of SECI’s Tranche XVII auction, which saw a total quoted capacity of 2,000 MW of solar projects paired with 4,000 MWh of storage.

The company secured the project at a tariff of ₹3.53 ($0.0416) per kWh, solidifying its position as a leading force in India’s renewable energy transformation.

A Milestone in Renewable Energy

Reliance NU Suntech will install a minimum storage capacity of 465 MW/1,860 MWh, charged exclusively by solar power.

This storage capacity will provide a guaranteed peak power supply of four hours daily, addressing a critical need for stable, round-the-clock renewable power in India’s rapidly growing energy market.

The SECI is expected to issue a letter of award to Reliance NU Suntech soon, and the project is set to be executed on a build-own-operate model.

The statement added that a 25-year power purchase agreement will be signed between SECI and Reliance NU Suntech, with the electricity to be sold to multiple state distribution companies across India.

Reliance Power, part of the Reliance ADA Group, is one of India’s leading private-sector power generation companies, with an operational capacity of 5,300 MW.

The company operates Sasan Power Ltd., a 3,960 MW coal-based plant widely regarded as one of the country’s most efficient power generation facilities.
