Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Andhra Pradesh to develop up to 7,000 megawatts of renewable energy projects in the state, the company said on Thursday.
The agreement, signed in Amaravati, will see TPREL and Andhra Pradesh jointly explore solar, wind and hybrid energy projects, with or without storage solutions.
The projects are expected to attract an investment of up to ₹490 billion ($5.9 billion), making it one of the largest renewable energy investments in the state.
“We are delighted to partner with the Government of Andhra Pradesh in advancing the state’s clean energy journey,” TPREL CEO Deepesh Nanda said. “By leveraging our expertise and cutting-edge technology, this partnership will drive large-scale renewable adoption and contribute to India’s sustainability goals.”
Integrated Clean Energy Policy
The MoU aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy, which aims to develop more than 160 GW of renewable energy capacity with a total investment potential of ₹10 trillion rupees. State officials said the policy is expected to generate 7.5 million jobs.
“This collaboration marks a deepening of the long-standing relationship between the state and the Tata Group,” Andhra Pradesh’s minister for information technology, electronics & communications, and human resources development, Nara Lokesh, said. “By fostering investments and innovation, we aim to accelerate clean energy deployment while ensuring long-term economic and environmental benefits for the state.”
Project Development and Implementation
As part of the agreement, TPREL will conduct feasibility studies and preliminary assessments for project development, while the New and Renewable Energy Development Corp. of Andhra Pradesh will provide facilitation support, including site identification and assistance with infrastructure for power evacuation.
Tata Power, a subsidiary of Tata Group, currently operates a diversified energy portfolio of 15.6 GW, including 6.7 GW of clean energy. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality before 2045.
