Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja Group’s flagship commercial vehicle manufacturer, announced on Tuesday that it ranked No. 1 globally in Sustainalytics’ ESG Risk Rating for the Heavy Machinery and Trucks sector for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2025.
The distinction places the automobile company at the forefront of corporate sustainability efforts, highlighting its dedication to environmental responsibility, social impact and excellence in governance.
Sustainalytics, a leading global provider of ESG research and ratings, assessed Ashok Leyland on a comprehensive range of sustainability metrics.
The company’s top-tier ranking reflects its strong performance across environmental management, corporate social responsibility, and governance practices, positioning it as a benchmark for sustainability in the commercial vehicle industry.
Industry Recognition and Leadership
“We are honored to be ranked No. 1 globally in Sustainalytics’ ESG Risk Rating for Heavy Machinery and Trucks,” said Shenu Agarwal, managing director and CEO of Ashok Leyland, in a statement.
“This prestigious recognition reflects our steadfast commitment to ESG excellence. Being acknowledged by a globally renowned platform is a testament to Ashok Leyland’s dedication as we accelerate toward our vision of being among the Top 10 global commercial vehicle players,” added Agarwal.

Commitment to a Sustainable Future
Ashok Leyland has taken significant strides in embedding sustainability into its operations, transitioning from a compliance-based approach to a comprehensive sustainability strategy.
The company has set ambitious environmental goals, including achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2030, committing to 100 percent renewable energy usage by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2048.
These bold targets underscore their commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
As the commercial vehicle industry faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable business practices, Ashok Leyland’s leadership in ESG performance sets a high standard for its peers.
Gender Diversity
Ashok Leyland has been leading women’s empowerment in the automotive industry. In October 2023, the company inaugurated a ‘women-centric cabin trim line’ at its Pantnagar plant that addresses large-size cabins for commercial vehicles. This line has a capacity of assembling 56 Cabins per shift and operates in 2 shifts.
The company also announced an all-women production line at its Hosur plant with about 80 employees. It has invested significantly in training and upskilling women in core manufacturing skills who are responsible for the entire production process of the new engine line.
By prioritizing sustainability across its business operations, product stewardship, and corporate social responsibility initiatives, the company aims to drive impactful change and pioneer sustainable mobility solutions for the future.
With its global ESG leadership now recognized, Ashok Leyland continues its journey toward a greener and more responsible future, reinforcing its position as a sustainability leader in the heavy machinery and trucks sector.
