BMW App Unveils Electric Vehicle Analysis Feature for Easier EV Transition
This feature offers combustion engine users a sense of the everyday practicality of the company’s all-electric cars.
My BMW, the versatile app of the world’s top premium automaker, introduced an electric vehicle analysis feature on Monday. This feature offers combustion engine users a sense of the everyday practicality of the company’s all-electric cars.
According to a press release, the feature allows BMW combustion engine drivers to compare their cars’ performance with the company’s EV models.
To analyze the feature, the user must select an electric BMW model as an alternative car in the app. Once the combustion-engine model has made at least 200 trips and covered 2,000 km, the analysis will show the number of trips the selected EV would have covered on a single charge.
For the simulation, the app uses the combustion engine model’s real-world driving data and gives the customer a sound basis for deciding which drive type to choose in their next vehicle.
“Electric vehicles can already be incorporated perfectly into the daily routine of many customers. It’s just that the majority of them haven’t tried it yet,” says Dirk Wiedmann, senior vice president of sales steering, strategy, and digitalization. “Our app’s electric vehicle analysis helps our customers to make an informed judgment in their choice of the drive system.”
The automaker will upgrade the function in the future to expand the reach of the analysis. It will also add evaluations of the time vehicles are not in use and on long-distance journeys, combined with information on charging facilities and the time required.
The latest update also introduced features designed to produce a seamless route-planning experience when switching between vehicle and app. Options such as avoiding motorways, ferries, or toll roads can now also be set in the app.
Additionally, My BMW App offers charging-optimized route planning for its EV cars, allowing users to add individual charging stops.
The app also notifies users of facilities near charging stations, such as restaurants, cafés, banks and supermarkets, and provides detailed information.
Through their apps, BMW EV drivers can now select and manage preferred charging tariffs from several providers. When the user selects a charging station, the app shows applicable prices for the selected point, allowing them to choose the cheapest tariff nearby.
The press release further said that 13 million customers worldwide presently use the My BMW App and MINI App, with 1 million based in Germany alone.
The MINI App is designed to enhance the ownership experience for MINI vehicle owners. Both apps have an average rating of 4.8 stars in the App Store.
