Plugzmart, an IIT Madras-incubated electric vehicle charger maker, has obtained its EV charger certification from the Automotive Research Association of India.

According to a press statement, the certification for Plugzmart’s 60kW DC fast charger and proprietor controller card signifies its compliance with operational safety standards and efficiency norms in India.

“Securing the ARAI certification for our 60kg DC charger, especially with our own controller card, is a significant achievement for us,” said Vivek Swamynathan, founder and CEO of Plugzmart, in a statement.

He added: “Our goal is to provide end-to-end solutions that not only address the current needs of the electric vehicle sector but also pave the way for future innovations in sustainable energy.”

The startup is integrating smart technologies, advanced control systems, and IoT-enabled platforms to create an efficient energy infrastructure that will support the global transition to greener and more sustainable transportation options.

“Plugzmart is a one-stop shop for all EV charging-related products and software services,” said Co-Founder Ragavendra Ravichandran in the statement.

Growth plans

Currently, Plugzmart is focused on developing high-speed DC chargers with their own controller and PLC module.

In the future, Plugzmart aims to offer a wide range of products in the electric vehicle charging segment, strongly emphasizing integrated software solutions.

Incubated at IIT Madras in 2019, the company built its own IOT-enabled smart EV charging management system to integrate and communicate efficiently with the chargers.

In 2022, the startup raised ₹3.63 crores in seed funding, led by early-stage venture capital firm Bluehill Capital and followed by investors such as SKCL’s Meera Reddy and Kartik Meyyappan, to name a few.
