China-Saudi Venture to Manufacture Battery Energy Storage Suited for Deserts
These systems feature advanced sandstorm protection and robust temperature designs, supporting long discharge cycles of over 12 hours.
China’s Hithium Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. and Saudi Arabia’s Manat, founded by businesswoman Nabilah Al-Tunisi, have partnered to manufacture battery energy storage systems with an annual production capacity of 5 gigawatt-hours.
According to a statement, the joint venture will be called Hithium Manat, and it will leverage the Chinese manufacturer’s expertise in energy storage and Manat’s local insight to serve the Saudi market better.
The partnership was announced at an event on solar energy in Riyadh, where Hithium unveiled energy storage solutions dedicated to desert applications for the first time.
The statement said these systems feature advanced sandstorm protection and robust high and low-temperature designs, supporting ultra-long discharge cycles of over 12 hours.
This new product line is customized to meet the unique demands of the Middle East and African region.
“Today marks a pivotal moment in Saudi Arabia’s energy journey. The development of one of the first advanced BESS manufacturing facilities in Saudi Arabia and the wider MENA region underscores this commitment,” said Nabilah Al-Tunisi at the event.
She said this strategic alliance will provide access to world-class energy storage technology, generate local employment opportunities, stimulate innovation and actively contribute to realizing the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objective.
Hithium is a leading manufacturer of top-quality stationary energy storage products for utility-scale as well as commercial and industrial applications, with more than 40GWh BESS projects shipment up to date.
The partnership between Hithium and Manat represents a significant step forward in the global energy storage market, particularly for the Middle East and Africa.
